If an institution uses a very similar procedure to an already-listed procedure for the same species, but the steps, dosages, timing, or other information vary, they create a child (variation) procedure and provide a description of how it differs from the procedure from which it was created (now called the parent procedure).
When a procedure is a child (variation) of another procedure, its procedure name ends in "(Child Procedure)", shown below..
When a parent procedure has one or more child procedures, the procedure list displays a "View Child Procedures" button (org chart icon), shown below.
Click on the "View Child Procedures" button to display the "Child Procedures" pop-up window which displays the procedure's child procedures, as shown below. Click on the link to the child procedure will open the child procedure.
When viewing a Procedure in Procedure Viewer (opened procedure), click on the "Get Child Procedures" button (org chart icon), depicted below to display the "Child Procedures" pop-up for that procedure.
- If the procedure has one or more child procedures, they'll appear on this pop-up.
- If the procedure does not have any child procedures, nothing will be listed.
